about

The fifth song completed and the intended album closer prior to writing three extra tracks. This song was an attempt to combine my usual mathy post rock style with the style of mathy skramz I was exploring on this EP. The stretch from when the vocals reintroduce after the instrumental break until the end of the album was easily some of the hardest guitar work to perform due to the odd time signature change and the general pasta making going on. During the end where the chords are ringing out and the lead is noodling, the notes were originally going to end on the same ones that open up Eleanor. After writing an extra track that wound up becoming the new closer, it was changed. Along with OCD, it's the only track to use a title irrelevant to the actual lyrics. Aside from the obvious use of an acoustic guitar on the closing track, this is the only track that features a guitar that is not my Telecaster but instead a Jackson Kelly. The Kelly is used during the ambiance of the intro and for the noodling on the outro due to the lighter string gauge and lower action.

lyrics

I watched the world swallow you whole and spit you out.
From your broken, lifeless body grew a tree.
It rebuilt your spine, it's branches grew strong.

And I swear I saw a moth grow from your shoulder blades.
It helped carry you home.
As sure as the seasons change, so too will your wings soar.
