A noose hangs from a tree
containing all my dreams.
I count them on my fingers,
never reaching past three.
I trace your visage in the fallen ash,
Misery is so good to me.
The vultures circle above,
as the sky changes shade.
Or is it my vision failing me?
Through the ash, I see locks of gold.
But the last thing I see?
Your eyes staring back at me.
The serpents uncoil from the green and bind my knees.
I've never felt anything so serene as they pull me under.
They pull me under.
If I sold you my soul,
would you grant me peace?
Only in this life and not the next.
Would you take my sorrow
and drown it in the sea
of my sins and wrong doings?
Take it out back,
and put it on it's knees.
And when it begs for sentience,
kill the beast, but leave the crown.
Kill the beast, but leave the crown.
Nearing the end with a crumbling heart,
my anguish is loud and furious.
I care no more for the light of day.
What's done is done, decisions can't be unmade.
Even a bitter man learns to love his suffering.
Designed grief greater than what fate has assigned,
yet still I cling to the roots with no way to climb.
Indomitable.
